The Sakya Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism takes its name from the light coloured ground around the monastery in southern Tibet. The meaning of Sakya is white earth. It is said that there was a sacred celestial visitation which bleached the soil white.

His Holiness Sakya Trizin is the 41st Head of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism. Sakya Trizin translates as "The Throneholder of Sakya". Born in Tibet in 1945, His Holiness ascended to the throne of Sakya at the young age of seven.   

                                           

Trained since early age in the various teachings of sutra and tantra, His Holiness is widely regarded as an emanation of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom.

His Holiness Sakya Trizin has visited the UK many times in the past and has been an inspiration to all those who have listened to him imparting his rich knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism.
