About the centre

This is the website of Sakya Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre in Reading UK. The Centre has been informally active since 1993 and in February 2000 Sakya Ling became a registered charity in the UK, no 1079247.

Our main objective is to promote the advancement of Buddhism and provide a place of learning and community involovement. We can provide talks, meditiation classes, teachings and are open to ideas from our supporters of what they would like to see.

Tibetan Buddhism is tolerant and respects all beliefs. Tibetan Lamas work tirelessly for the benefit of all beings with love and compassion. They have vast wisdom of Training the Mind and Meditation, following original lineage teachings thousands of years old.

We modestly practice these principles at our Sakya Centre, to create a good and helpful atmosphere and benefit in particular the local community.

  1. I’d love to be informed of events at the centre please. I attended Kalachakra with His Holiness last year in Kensington and recently attended Medicine Buddha with His Holiness’ son.
    With my best wishes,
    Christian Daw

    • Thanks for you comments, Christian. We will add you to our email notification list to keep you updated on our events (in addition to the information that gets posted here on the website).

      • Hi Christian, if you use face book join the Sakya Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre and then I’ll send you a message from there about meeting at the centre for discussion, meditation etc

        • Hi Christian, see you the home page of this site for a free course of 8 meditation lessons in Reading. You may be more advanced than this but we will increase the depth through the lessons and it is always good to refresh our knowledge. Please let us know if you can join us or know of anyone else you might benefit. Yours in Dharma

  2. I too am very interested to be kept updated with events, but I was wondering if there are regular meetings at the centre and what the schedule might be?

    • Hi Robert! Please keep an eye on the Events page of the website, which will include information about visits of Lamas and special events (such as Losar, etc).

Most other events at the centre have been arranged by request. If you would like to request a puja for a special purpose, please send us an email.

If you are interested in being part of a study group, such as as “Introduction to Buddhism”, then please let us know and we can try and arrange a series of scheduled meetings for the autumn season.

      • Thank you very much for your reply. I had previously attended meetings and started some of the foundational practices with another group in Reading, but found the entire organisation very questionable. So I am now trying to find a Buddhist group in Reading. I have previously taken refuge with a Kagyu Lama. So I would be interested in joining a study group. I’m not sure if I’ve moved past the point of needing an introduction to Buddhism but I’d still be interested (and could probably always use a stronger foundation in the ‘basics’)

        Regards,

        Robert

        • Hi Robert, it would be good to speak directly and we can arrange something small scale at the centre, discussion, meditation etc we also have a curry house below so can combine with something to eat. If you use face book join the Sakya Ling Tibetan Buddhist Centre and then I’ll send you a message from there about meeting at the centre for discussion, meditation etc. At the moment we meet informally and will program things in for others if there is demand.
